Eligibility Requirements
Patient must be 21 years of age or younger
Patient must live 20 miles or more from the child's treatment facility
Ask your medical care team for a referral. A written referral from a doctor, nurse or social worker is required for all stays.
What to Expect During Your Stay
Private Room
Each family is assigned a private room (up to four people) with a private bathroom.
Community Kitchen
Families share a large kitchen and dining area stocked with basic kitchen items.
Laundry Facilities
We provide linens, towels, laundry detergent, and free laundry facilities.
Living Spaces
Families can relax in shared living areas with televisions, a children’s playroom and a game room.
Transportation
Taxi vouchers may be available to assist families with transportation during their stay.

A referal is required by an authorized medical staff person such as a medical social worker, charge nurse, or doctor to receive a room

Frequently Asked Questions
Families may qualify to stay if the patient is 21 years or younger, receiving medically necessary care in the San Antonio area, and the family lives more than 20 miles away from where medical services are being provided.
All adults 18 and older (including the patient) must pass a background check.
Minor parents must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
High-risk pregnant mothers are required to always have a support person (18 or older) with them in the House while pregnant.
Due to the immune-compromised population we serve, no individuals experiencing any symptoms of a contagious illness, or exposed to a contagious illness within three weeks of admission, will be eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
At time of check in, a valid photo ID such as driver’s license, state issued ID, valid passport, military ID, Employment Authorization Cared, (EAD-ID), or a Permanent Resident Card is required. Guests without proper identification are not allowed to check in.
A hospital social worker or medical care team member must submit a referral on your behalf. Please contact your care team to begin the process.

There is no cost to stay.
Our cost averages around $100 per night for each family. Ronald McDonald House San Antonio relies on donors and the community to support our daily operations. Donations are accepted by our guests if they so desire, but are never required.
